Why Voting YES on 2A Matters for Durango’s Outdoors

Durango’s parks, trails, and open spaces are at the core of what makes our community special. They bring us together, fuel our outdoor lifestyle, and support our local economy. That’s why the Durango Mesa Park Foundation is encouraging a YES vote on Ballot Question 2A to extend the existing Open Space, Parks & Trails Sales Tax.

This isn’t a new tax—it’s one we’ve had since 2005, and it’s already helped create, protect and improve the places we love. Extending it means we can keep investing in projects that benefit everyone, like Durango Mesa Park, Smart160, the Animas River Trail extension, and other efforts that make our outdoor spaces even better.

At the Durango Mesa Park Foundation, we’re committed to donating the Park to the community, making it a premier recreational and cultural space for generations to come. But to bring this vision to life, we need steady, long-term funding. This tax extension is critical to building and maintaining trails, the bike park and BMX track, and other features that will turn Durango Mesa Park into the community envisioned park we’ve been dreaming, planning and designing for nearly a decade.

Without this funding, we risk losing momentum on an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape Durango’s outdoor future. Open spaces bring our community together, keeping Durango a thriving, accessible, and sustainable place for everyone.

Please vote YES on Ballot Question 2A—let’s invest in Durango’s future together! For more information: https://opt-indurango.info/
